The Evil Parvovirus

We learned a big lesson in keeping vaccines up to date last week. Mickey contracted parvo. For two days he was in and out of the Vet's getting fluid and antibiotic injections. On the third day he started to eat and drink a little and on the fourth day he was back to his normal hyper-playfull self again.

If your dog(s) aren't up to date on their shots go get them! It was a very scary experience for us. But luckily it wasn't that severe and Mickey made it through without much trouble. We had Lance tested the same day that Mick started showing symptoms and he was negative for parvo and got his boosters right then and there. Mick will be going back in for his in a week or so. This photo is of Mickey the day he felt better.

Mickey Pics

Mickey has grown a lot, really fast. He's now at that lanky stage in a pup's life. Here are some pics taken this morning.

Flooding!

It may not seem to be a big deal to the dogs but when it's storming and the water is 2" up the side of the house and rising it's not good! Today is the second day of a storm front here in the foothills of the Sierras and we got a good mix of hail, rain, and lightning. None of it bothers Lance and Mickey, in fact they enjoy it, but flooding of our backyard has been an ongoing problem for years and right now it's getting pretty bad. We've put in drains and used "waddles" but sometimes it's just too much rain.

Lance says Hello!

I think a lot of people think that some dog tricks are harder to teach than they really are. Once you know how a dog learns things it's pretty easy to teach them tricks like roll-over, wave, shake, speak, etc. Lance learned how to shake, wave, and give high-five all in about 5 minutes. Sure they are just variations of the same action but you can impress your friends with each :)

Mick Pics - As Requested :)

I really need a new camera. Four out of five pics are always too blurry even with the camera set to take action shots. So all the pics of the dogs playing in the snow didn't turn out :( Here are a few from in the house though.

When Mick first got home. My mom holding him.

It's hard to get a good face shot, lol.

More Toys!!!

We really made out on Christmas with new toys. Lance got a new frisbee (a Kong flyer), a new rope tug toy, and some new tennis balls (can never have enough tennis balls). Mick got a tire tug toy and a Kong that is supposed to help with teething. And they both got a lot of attention from everyone. Lance got to show off some new tricks and Mick got to show off his cuteness. They will undoubtedly enjoy some scraps from Christmas dinner as well :)

Merry Christmas!

Mick's First Day Home

The morning after my arrival at my new home was a lot of fun. I got to play with my new toy and my new friend Lance. Lance is a Border Collie, like me, but he's much bigger... and hairier than I am. I think we are going to be best friends. There are two little dogs here too but they aren't much fun. They just lay around and one of them, Bitsi, is always whining and it's very annoying. I was whining too but at least I had a good reason; they made me sleep in a crate last night! I'm not used to it at all. I'm used to sleeping outside with my brothers and sisters. I explored the yard a lot today with Lance and played a good game of chase. Couldn't catch Lance though, he's too fast for me. Brandon, one of my new human friends, was using something very loud outside called a leaf blower. Lance protected me from it until Janelle, my other human friend, came and saved me. I wasn't afraid though. Now I'm tired from this morning's excitement and I'm going to sleep. But not too much so I don't keep Brandon up all night again. Tomorrow is Christmas and I think I'm going to get some more toys!
