The Evil Parvovirus

We learned a big lesson in keeping vaccines up to date last week. Mickey contracted parvo. For two days he was in and out of the Vet's getting fluid and antibiotic injections. On the third day he started to eat and drink a little and on the fourth day he was back to his normal hyper-playfull self again.

If your dog(s) aren't up to date on their shots go get them! It was a very scary experience for us. But luckily it wasn't that severe and Mickey made it through without much trouble. We had Lance tested the same day that Mick started showing symptoms and he was negative for parvo and got his boosters right then and there. Mick will be going back in for his in a week or so. Mickey has grown a lot, really fast. He's now at that lanky stage in a pup's life. Here are some pics taken this morning.

Flooding!

It may not seem to be a big deal to the dogs but when it's storming and the water is 2" up the side of the house and rising it's not good! Today is the second day of a storm front here in the foothills of the Sierras and we got a good mix of hail, rain, and lightning. None of it bothers Lance and Mickey, in fact they enjoy it, but flooding of our backyard has been an ongoing problem for years and right now it's getting pretty bad. We've put in drains and used "waddles" but sometimes it's just too much rain.
